St. John Chiropractic Care

St. John Chiropractic Care

At Motus Integrative Health, we understand that chronic pain comes in many forms. It can be difficult to know how to manage it and get back to living your best daily life. Thankfully, in many cases, chiropractic care is a safe and effective way to manage that pain without surgery or medication. Whether you’re struggling with back pain, joint pain, or migraine headaches, Motus Integrative Health’s chiropractic care offices near St. John can help.

What happens at a chiropractor appointment?

A chiropractor appointment will start with discussing your health history and determining the cause of your pain. (In some cases, your doctor might suggest additional examinations or tests.) A technique called motion palpation may be used to test the range of movement in your joints, giving your doctor a better idea of what might be causing discomfort.

Then, a common technique used by chiropractors to relieve pain is what’s called an “adjustment.” You may be asked to lay on a specially padded table to treat the source of your pain. During an adjustment, your chiropractor will apply controlled force to push a joint beyond its typical range of motion, at which point you may hear a popping noise.

Chiropractic Manipulation in all its forms is a natural method of pain relief, and can help improve your range of motion and even reduce stress.

Who should see a chiropractor?

While a trained chiropractor can treat many conditions, the most common conditions that people see a chiropractor for are lower back pain, neck pain, muscle pain, and headaches. Chiropractic care is a safe and effective solution for those exploring options outside of or in addition to surgery and medication. In fact, according to the American Chiropractic Association people who “saw a chiropractor as their initial provider for low back pain (LBP) had 90% decreased odds of both early and long-term opioid use.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, seeing a chiropractor is safe when adjustments are performed by a licensed and trained chiropractor, such as one of our doctors near St. John. However, you should not seek an adjustment if you have certain underlying conditions, such as severe osteoporosis, cancer in your spine, an increased risk of stroke, or known bone abnormalities in the upper neck.

If you have any questions about whether or not seeing a chiropractor is right for you, you may wish to schedule a free consultation with one of our doctors at Motus Integrative Health. Our doctors understand the importance of creating a personalized treatment and getting you the help you need, so you can get back to feeling your best.
