Infant

At Motus Integrative Health, we are passionate about guiding your family through every step of your child’s growth and development. Recognizing and understanding infant developmental milestones, as well as addressing any potential delays early, are crucial aspects of ensuring a healthy, thriving childhood. Our comprehensive approach encompasses assessments, targeted treatments including Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, and extensive support resources for families navigating the intricacies of pediatric health and wellness.

What Are Infant Developmental Milestones?

Developmental milestones are behaviors or physical skills displayed by infants and children as they grow and develop. Rolling over, crawling, walking, and talking are all considered milestones. These milestones are categorized into physical (fine and gross motor skills), cognitive (thinking, learning, problem-solving), and social/emotional domains. Each milestone represents the average age at which children typically reach these stages:

  • 2 Months: Smiles at people, can briefly calm themselves, tries to look at parent
  • 4 Months: Begins to babble, copies some movements and expressions, reaches for toy with one hand
  • 6 Months: Rolls over in both directions, begins to sit without support, responds to own name
  • 9 Months: Crawls, stands holding on, has favorite toys
  • 12 Months: Uses simple gestures (e.g., waving bye-bye), says “mama” and “dada” to the specific parent, stands alone momentarily

Recognizing Pediatric Developmental Delays

Developmental delays occur when a child does not reach their developmental milestones at the expected times. It is important to recognize the signs of developmental delay early to ensure timely intervention. Signs may include:

  • Limited movement or struggles with motor skills compared to peers
  • Difficulty with speech and communication
  • Challenges in social interactions
  • Poor cognitive skills (problem-solving, learning, memory)

Addressing Developmental Delays at Motus Integrative Health

Our team at Motus Integrative Health specializes in diagnosing and treating pediatric developmental delays. We conduct detailed exams and assessments to understand each child’s unique situation. Our treatments focus on:

  • Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS): A key treatment method we use is DNS, which plays a pivotal role in managing developmental delays. DNS involves exercises that mimic developmental sequences infants naturally go through. This approach helps in establishing neural patterns and strengthening motor skills.
  • Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy: Adjustments tailored for infants and children to support overall physical development and address specific issues such as torticollis or oral ties.
  • Nutritional Counseling and Wellness Coaching: Providing families with guidance on nutrition and wellness to support development.
  • Pediatric Physical Rehabilitation: Custom exercises and therapies designed to improve strength, coordination, and movement.

Addressing Specific Conditions:

  • Oral Ties (Tongue and Lip Ties): Our team assesses and provides interventions for infants experiencing feeding difficulties related to oral ties.
  • Infant Reflux: We offer strategies and treatments to alleviate symptoms of reflux, improving comfort and feeding.
  • Feeding Issues and Torticollis: Through targeted exercises and therapies, we work towards resolving these conditions, enhancing your child’s ability to reach developmental milestones.
