Crown Point Chiropractic Care

Crown Point Chiropractic Care

If your joint pain is uncomfortable or disruptive to your everyday life, you may be looking for relief. While it is still important to diagnose the source of your symptoms, you may not be looking to control pain using medication or surgery. There are other options. Instead, our expert chiropractors in Crown Point can help you to restore function and movement to painful joints using Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy.

What is Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy?

With Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy, a chiropractor performs what is called an “adjustment.” Adjustments are most commonly performed for lower back pain, neck pain or headaches. During an adjustment, your chiropractor will use a gentle but firm thrust to stimulate the nervous system in the inflamed area. This controlled motion pushes the joint beyond its typical range of motion, and you may hear a popping noise, similar to cracking your knuckles.

What happens at an appointment?

There is typically no preparation needed for a chiropractic visit at our offices in Crown Point, although your chiropractor may ask you questions about your health history and recommend other examinations or tests. During an adjustment, your chiropractor may ask you to lay on a specially padded table, allowing them to treat the affected area.

How do I know where the pain is coming from?

Our Crown Point chiropractors are able to locate the source of joint pain in both the spinal column and extremities using motion palpation. During this process, your chiropractor will test your range of motion to see if there are any unusual restrictions that may be causing pain.

Do chiropractors actually help?

A study cited by the American Chiropractic Association claims that “back pain and neck pain were the most prevalent health problems for chiropractic consultations and the majority of users reported chiropractic helping a great deal with their health problem and improving overall health or well-being.”

Compared to other treatments, chiropractic users are 64% less likely to receive an opioid prescription. Additionally, those who receive chiropractic care are less likely to undergo surgery later. A 2012 study found that “42.7% of workers with back injuries who first saw a surgeon had surgery, in contrast to only 1.5% of those who saw a chiropractor.”

Who should receive chiropractic care?

According to the Mayo Clinic, complications related to chiropractic adjustments are rare when performed by trained and licensed chiropractors. However, you should not seek an adjustment if you have severe osteoporosis, cancer in your spine, an increased risk of stroke, known bone abnormalities in the upper neck, or numbness, tingling or loss of strength in an arm or leg.
